Medics

Medics

Medics are the frontline caretakers of a struggling society, dedicated to preserving life in the harshest of conditions. Trained in medicine and driven by compassion or duty, they work tirelessly to treat the sick and injured, often with limited resources and under immense pressure. In a world where survival is never guaranteed, Medics represent a fragile but vital thread of humanity - offering hope, healing, and resilience amid the cold and chaos.

ACTIONS

Medics have two actions, Healing and Triage:

Healing: Medical personnel dedicate themselves to helping the recovery of the city’s citizens. A Medics team may select any other team in the city and improve their health from ill to healthy, or from gravely ill to ill. The number of teams Medical personnel can help may be increased by Engineers Upgrade Medical Equipment.

Triage: Medical personnel will dedicate all their efforts to healing those who can recover quickly at the cost of sacrificing the more severely ill. A Medics team can sacrifice any ill or gravely ill team to immediately make any four other teams healthy.  The number of teams that can be made healthy may be increased by Engineers Upgrade Medical Equipment. Any cold tokens assigned to the sacrificed team must immediately be reassigned by the Medics team leader.

Special Rules

As the caretakers of the city's well-being, all Medical personnel carry a First Aid Kit, allowing them to save characters who would otherwise succumb to fatal injuries.

Costuming Advice

In a world frozen over, the person with the power to preserve life is worth their weight in gold. Likely from some kind of academic background, and understanding the importance of keeping themselves and their workspace clean, your clothing should be cleaner than most. Although, bloodstains on your robes might make for a suitable dramatic flair. Following tradition, and needing to be easily identified amongst the city’s crowded denizens, Medics should wear white or light clothing perhaps further distinguished with some singular brightly coloured accessory consistent across the group. Medics are also likely to carry some symbols of religious iconography with them, as they are often responsible for administering last rites to the city’s fallen.

Key features:

  • Straight Silhouette, incorporating three step layering on the sleeves. Medics may wear long wool or cotton robes or overcoats - practical and warm. An overcoat, smock or tabard with a red cross or medical insignia on the arm or chest would also be a way to efficiently communicate your character’s role as a medic to other players. Victorian nurses also typically wore full-length, long-sleeved grey dresses made of tweed, often with a white apron and caps.

  • Medics should wear lighter clothes than the rest of the city for easier identification ideally in muted colours like off-white, light grey, tan, or slate blue. Leather aprons, gloves and masks in a darker colour would also be appropriate.

  • Medical armbands or patches with red crosses or similar symbols make for an iconic accessory to add to your costume. Other accessories include period appropriate medical equipment kept on a utility belt or pouch, bandages on the hands or limbs, and clipboards or notebooks for patient notes.

  • A pale, tired complexion hinting at long hours and cold exposure will be common among medics. Also considering including blood smattering around the hands and possibly the face to hint at recent surgery. Hair will always be neatly tied back, braided, or usually covered with at least a simple cloth cap.
